What is Montessori?

Are all Montessori schools the same?

While many Montessori schools contain the same Montessori materials, the way the school operates often depends on the administration’s interpretation of the philosophy. Our approach is to provide a warm, nurturing environment where children’s feelings come first. We also believe that when parents visit the school they should see the school as a whole.

How do you discipline?

Children who choose to ignore the ground rules are given choices one of which is less popular than the other. They may be asked to sit in a chair within the center of the classroom setting until they can get up and find an activity to keep them busy. Staff relies on natural and logical consequences.

Why should I consider Montessori over a traditional nursery school?

It depends on what you want for your child. Montessori is a goal directed learning program that does not duplicate the toys found at home. Instead, it provides real life experiences, develops the senses, and teaches children how to read, perform math skills, discover science, and learn about world cultures.

Is Montessori more expensive than other preschools?

Park View’s tuition is competitively priced with all types of preschool. We charge monthly rather than weekly because there are often more than four weeks in a month. We always keep in mind that many of our clients are both working parents or may be a single parent.

Are there any advantages to sending a child younger than three to a Montessori school?

This is a wonderful way to introduce the child to the Montessori environment and basic Montessori materials. They learn to wok at a table or rug, return materials to the place they got them from, and have a great sensorial experience with water activities. Moreover, they are introduced to living within a group of their own peers and learning from them. Parents benefit from the toilet training process and minimizing the “terrible two’s”.
